Steps To Managing Your Weight

Managing weight for life is not about dieting, our diet is what we eat every day, most people associate a diet with something they are either on or off. We gain weight because we consume more energy than we expend. A very small change to what we eat can sometimes be the difference between putting on weight, staying at the same weight or losing weight.

Many people will have been on a weight reduction diet before, the Weight Matters 8 step approach aims to help you learn new ways to control your weight by providing information that you can put into practice in your daily life.  We are on a diet everyday, but it is the energy in the diet that we consume that makes the difference to our weight.

We have learnt our behaviours over time and it is important to recognise that changing them will also take time.  The most effective way to do this is to concentrate on making one change at a time.  Working through these steps will help you do that.

You can spend as much time as you like on each step of the journey, each of us will change our behaviour over a different time, however evidence suggest that behaviour change takes between 21 and 66 times of being repeated to become a habit.
